Installation

Requirements

  • A Shopify store (any plan — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, or Plus)
  • Admin access to install apps
  • At least 30 orders with return data for AI analysis (more data = better accuracy)

Step 1: Install from the Shopify App Store

  1. Visit the ReturnShield AI app listing on the Shopify App Store
  2. Click "Add app"
  3. Review the requested permissions and click "Install app"
  4. ReturnShield will be added to your Shopify admin

Step 2: Initial Data Sync

After installation, ReturnShield automatically:

  1. Imports 90 days of order and return data from your store
  2. Analyzes return notes using NLP (takes up to 24 hours for large stores)
  3. Scores every product (0-100 risk score)
  4. Segments customers into 4 risk tiers
  5. Generates initial AI fixes in the Action Queue

No configuration needed — the sync starts immediately after install.

Step 3: Review Your Dashboard

Once the initial analysis completes, your dashboard will show:

  • Return Rate Trends — how your return rate has changed over time
  • Product Risk Scores — which products have the highest return rates
  • Customer Segments — which customers are high-risk or serial returners
  • True Cost Calculator — the real cost of returns (not just refund amounts)
  • AI Action Queue — suggested fixes ready for your review

Step 4: Apply Your First Fix

  1. Go to the Action Queue tab
  2. Review the top-priority fix (sorted by expected savings)
  3. See the word-level diff showing exactly what changes
  4. Review the evidence (e.g., "8 of 14 returns mention tight shoulders")
  5. Click "Apply" to update the product description

The Free plan includes up to 50 orders/month with:

  • Return intelligence dashboard
  • Industry benchmarks
  • Return rate trends
  • True cost calculator

Upgrade to Starter ($29/mo) to unlock AI return reason analysis, product risk scoring, and customer segmentation.
